Abstract In this study, we quantify the relationship between socio-economic status and life expectancy identify combinations of variables that are particularly useful for explaining mortality differences neighbourhoods in England. We achieve by examining variation experiences across small areas England known as lower layer super output (LSOAs). then consider 12 to have a strong association with mortality. estimate those rates using random forest algorithm. Based on resulting estimate, create new index – Longevity Index (LIFE). The is constructed way eliminates impact care homes might artificially increase LSOAs compared do not contain home. Using data different age groups, make age-dependent investigate specific characteristics age-specific risk. compare explanatory power LIFE English Multiple Deprivation (IMD) predictors While find IMD can explain regional some extent, has significantly greater regions. Our empirical results also indicate income deprivation amongst elderly employment most significant factors
